SIR – It’s a bit rich George Osborne trying to claim its his policies that are working and the country’s on the mend.

If he’d taken on Labour chancellor Alistair Darling’s policy, the country wouldn’t have got in such a mess.

He put a squeeze on wages and allowed prices to rise well above inflation.

He’s taken money from the poorest and allowed people in places such as the House of Lords claim more in a day than a job seeker has to live on in a week.

It’s a typical Tory share-out – lots of money for the rich and very little for the poor.

I’m expecting the next 18 months to go very well until the election – then after that it will be back to the same old programme.
