SIR – So the council is/has allowed thousands of houses to be built on orchards, green fields and historic sites (Abbey Fields) and now I learn this was allowed to happen because the Government had promised money to the council, calling it the new homes bonus grant.

Now the Government has back-tracked and has decided to not give the money to the council. So not only did the council allow itself to be ‘blackmailed’ into building thousands of houses and changing the face of our city forever, we now all know how easily councillors can be paid off.

So many local people were against all these houses being built, but they were all ignored. Now we know why.

Shame on you. So now we know.
