SIR – Regarding your article ‘Bus cuts special’ on November 26.

I recall we once had a bus service Midland red X44. This ran between Worcester and Birmingham, taking 40-50 minutes’ journey time.

Instead of cutting bus services the county should be increasing bus services.

By comparison, Birmingham has a tram, bus, and a train service available to general commuters, and free of charge to pensioners and other pass holders.

Manchester has similar arrangements with a tram service, along with a free city central bus service for everyone, including visitors.

Car owners commute like lemmings to their places of work, then whinge for hours about the hard time they’ve encountered getting to work.

I have written before, using as an example, those living in Tenbury Wells, (Bus service cuts; page 5, January 4 2012) who do not have a direct bus service to Ludlow! I do not wish to be unkind but I hope those who currently get stuck in traffic, get stuck for longer until their brains migrate towards a sustainable, reliable public transport system.

Let’s put the transport planners on half pay until this is achieved.
