SIR – While applying for a job online with a well known high street technology retail chain, I was asked to fill in a personality questionnaire.

I was taken to an external company’s webpage, where after reading a disclaimer, there was a seemingly optional tick box asking whether I agreed to be contacted by the external company for future surveys.

I declined to tick, and was shocked to find I was not permitted to continue with the test (and therefore my application) unless I consented to be contacted!

So unless I agreed to be harassed in the future from a third party research company, there is no way I could apply for the job. This is disgusting.
