SIR - I was first allowed to vote in 1970 aged 21, and voted Tory all my life, but by 2009 I began to feel deserted and ignored.

By 2010 I realised that the Tories no longer reflected my views. They used to stand for the United Kingdom, Freedom and Fairness. Now they stand for Europe, Submission and Inequality.

As far as I am concerned, they broke the ultimate promise: an EU Referendum!

The previous generation fought for Freedom from European suppression – now I have to bow to EU laws. Traditional fairness meant we had to “put in” in order to “take out” – now “open borders” means anyone can arrive and, having put nothing in, can immediately take out financial benefits, health care, housing, and schooling. In spite of changes we are still considered “the soft touch of Europe”.

Mr. Cameron is once again promising an EU Referendum in 2017, but only if the Tories are elected with an overall majority in 2015. This is blackmail!

Does this mean we will once again be denied a choice if he has to go into a coalition? The reason given in 2010 for a change of policy was that the Lisbon Treaty had already been signed. Will it be unsigned by 2017?

Call me English, call me British, but never, ever call me a European!
