Sir - I gather that Legal and General boss says that UK should quit EU if it can't get a better deal. He says that "Everyone argues in different political ways that if we get a good deal with Europe we should stay and if we get a terrible deal we should stay out."

He added "my personal view is the EU has simply got too big now and it's very difficult to work with. I'd like to see us turn outward more towards the world."

The Mail comments that he is the first Chief Executive of a FTSE 100 company to publicly suggest the UK could leave the EU.

Boris Johnson said: Britain could have a 'positive future' outside the EU should this reform fail - even calling for an initial period of economic uncertainty.

Open Europe research director Stephen Booth argued that while EU reform was the most preferable option, the UK could prosper outside the EU but that much could depend on the exact nature of the post-exit EU-UK trade deal.

I find these most interesting comments.
