Sir - Whilst driving over the Carrington Bridge this morning coming from St Peters, turning right at the Ketch roundabout then crossing the river, it came to me!
If you look at the bridge it has a foot/cycle path on the city side, and a similar width paved area on the Kempsey side, which is not used by foot or cycles.
So why doesn't the county council consider re aligning the carriageways slightly, lose both paved areas either side of the roadway to make a second carriageway to the approach to the bridge?
One could then cantilever the foot/cycle path on the outside of the current structure, surly this would be technically possible and the current side barrier would then become protection for the pedestrians and cyclist`s which would make the crossing of the bridge a lot safer than it is at the moment, by being protected from the traffic.
Everyone's a winner! If the county council wish me to discus this simple yet cost-effective solution to their problem they are more than welcome to contact me.
