Sir - Carl Mason claims to represent “the real British people”. Would he tell us who he is referring to? The original indigenous inhabitants of what the Romans called Britannae were a number of tribes who frequently went to war with each other.

They were occupied and assimilated by the Romans, whose descendants included the Romano-British. The Romano -British were descended from Roman immigrants.

When the Roman occupiers left, along came the Saxons and Angles. The then indigenous population were largely driven out. They then had to contend with a large influx of Danish settlers.

Then along came the Normans, themselves descended from Norsemen whose descendants eventually married into what was left of the local population.

It can be seen that the vast majority of “British” people are the descendants of at least one and probably several waves of immigrants.

So, come on Mr. Mason, do tell us –who do you mean when you refer to the real British people?

And why pick on the current wave of immigrants unless you are just looking for scapegoats to blame for the economic and social policy failures of politicians.
