SIR - Former Conservative P/M Sir John Major made a speech over leaving the EU. He told an audience in Berlin that the chances of Britain leaving the EU would increase from its present level of "just under 50%"".

Mr Cameron thought this was a very good speech, "important and timely". He is set to use the G20 to put more pressure on Mr Jean Claude Juncker, EU President of the Commission over his role in fostering the country's status as a tax haven. Mr Juncker has faced calls to resign the EU's presidency over concessions given for tax deals in Luxembourg during the 18 years he was P.M.

Mr Juncker denies this saying there is nothing in his past indicating that his intentions were to create a tax haven in Europe. Mr Juncker is due to represent the EU at the G20 summit in Brisbane when Mr Cameron will take the opportunity to grill him further.
