SIR - POPULATION

Thanks to UKIP, other political parties are now desperately trying to play catch-up on immigration and population.

The question all UK citizens must ask is exactly how big the population should be on our very tiny island. Can we really support the fast approaching 70 million? ... or even 80 million? ... how about 100 million?

The way some of our local and national politicians talk, you would think that the UK has the land availability of America, Canada, or Australia! Nearer to home, Sweden is considered a small country. That is because it has a population of a mere 9 million people. However, its land area is nearly twice that of the UK where 63 million of us have to exist!

Last week the ‘Black Friday’ sales event resulted in people being trampled underfoot in the stampede for cheap televisions. Just think what will happen when personal space, freedom of movement, homes, food, water and quality of life are restricted by over-population.

We must not let impractical idealism and weak government lead us into this catastrophe.
