SIR - I notice there’s a debate about the stupidity of building a new shopping centre up near the hospital. Can I suggest that if the likes of Marks and Spencer and Sainsbury’s want to build super stores, how about transforming the city side of Shrub hill, from the station right up new St Martin’s development and taking in the bottom of Lowesmoor. As this would greatly improve the rail station approach area and allow the canal to become a feature? A little creative designing could incorporate the old shrub hill fascia and clock tower
I’ve seen similar very successful developments in and around the country, it would be nice to think that this new development, that I’ve suggested, could link the proposed development at the bottom of Ronkswood to the city centre and greatly improving the general appearance of Shrub hill and the Lowesmoor area in stead of building where its going to hinder the operation of the hospital .But more importantly it would , if carried out correctly, enhance a major blot on the cities landscape and bring more people into the dying city centre, The canal side could be transformed into a relaxing entertaining area, as other cities have, it would also encourage more businesses to development other areas of the city centre
