Sir - I came to the Worcester Royal Infirmary as a Consultant Physician in 1976. There were five of us coping with all medical emergencies.
Now there are around 50 Physicians providing a fantastic service across the three hospital sites. The amazing advances in health delivery require more doctors and nurses.
This is exactly what has happened. Mortality has plummeted and we are all living longer healthier lives. Inevitably this, and the aging population, has raised expectations putting pressures on the service.
Our A&E has coped valiantly with the high numbers of patients. Some have had to wait a long time for their care to be completed or admission to a ward, but everyone was in a place of safety.
On the Politics Show, Robin Walker, MP, talked about the challenges and solutions in the NHS publicly praising the staff. Whenever Joy Squires (Worcester News 14th. January 2015) mentions the NHS she politicises and criticises.
Robin has been involved in campaigns to support it e.g. head and neck surgery, radiotherapy unit, breast unit and investment in more doctors and nurses.
Labour may want to weaponise the NHS but the public will not be fooled.
So stop this undermining of the NHS and its staff. It is the envy of the world. The NHS will continue to develop needing more resources.
These will come from getting the national debt and deficit under control: we are on course for that.
No, Joy Squires, you are wrong .... the NHS needs a Conservative government.
Dr. David Tibbutt, DM,FRCP
Chairman, Worcester Conservative Association.
