SIR - John Phillpott seems to be confused about the Human Rights Act. He thinks it was imposed by the EU.

He's wrong. It was passed into Law in our democratic Parliament in 2000. It's nothing to do with the EU; it's derived from the European Convention on Human Rights (which mirrors the UN one). Every 16 year old learns that at school! Even USSR/Russia and Norway signed that convention.

By the way, John should get his grandchildren to tell him how the EU works, particularly why we pay our expensive MEPs to vote for European laws in the Parliament.
