Sir, I wrote to your paper in July 2011 to raise concerns about the leadership of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, and to suggest that chairman Harry Turner might want to consider his position in light of reports into the appalling conditions then prevailing at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch.

I also suggested back then that the Board might not be properly balanced in terms of the professional skills and backgrounds necessary to fully inform the strategic leadership of a modern 21st century health service.

Revelations about patients having cardiac arrests and miscarriages in corridors whilst waiting for beds, together with last week’s breakdown in A and E and the knock-on impact on the ability of the ambulance service to respond to emergency calls, must be the final straw.

Additionally five A and E consultants have recently walked out and the Trust is now facing legal action from the Care Quality Commission.

What are Harry Turner and his Board waiting for? They can’t possibly believe that they are still capable of reversing a situation that has already spiralled out of control. They must all go, and go now.

Chairman, Worcester City Community Engagement Forum.
