Sir - I am grateful to the letter (April 10th) from Cecil Boyd-Willis (who clearly appears to be a Tory supporter or even a member), for giving readers an insight into Tory thinking on the future of the NHS.

In the letter he states: “It’s no secret that David Cameron would like to privatise the NHS and I fully agree with him. If you need hospital treatment then you should pay for it”.

Self-funding seems to be favoured in the letter. It also seems clear that to achieve the fantasy funding the Tories are throwing about at the moment, would ultimately lead to massive privatisations and very large changes for services, because that is the way they think ideologically.

Of course the Tories will claim that privatisation may be cheaper, but undoubtably in the long-term it leads to greater costs and much reduced services, you only have to look at the American example. Our NHS is the most cost effective health service in the world.

Unless you are in such a financially privileged position that you can pay for whatever you want, then you must fear for the future. So the way forward with any future Tory government appears to be an American style health insurance scheme. Great for Tory investors and millionaires, but poor for the rest of us.

This sort of inequality that takes place in American is one of the many reasons why we are now seeing so many city riots over there. Something I think none of wish to see over here.
