SIR – Re, Worcester News, July 18. The new road layout near Warndon villages is another failure by Worcester highways. It has to be done again, the taxpayer will foot the Bill and no heads will roll at County Hall.
I am not going to harp on about this because this is becoming the norm. If Worcester Highways are involved it is to be expected for obvious reasons.
What I did find interesting was the story over the page about taxis sharing the bus lanes. Councilor Denham rightly points out that there is no sense in taxis not using the bus lanes, especially after bus cuts because bus lanes are often empty.
Now a few weeks ago another councillor admitted that a park and ride scheme would never work in Worcester unless they decreased the amount of car parking spaces and increased the cost of parking, therefore forcing people to use public transport.( Sounds like a dictatorship to me.)
Now for years our councillors have been trying to force us to use public transport or to get on our bikes. Now clearly this is never going to happen.
So common sense tells me, if the bus lanes are empty get rid of them all together and open up the roads for the majority of us who drive cars.
Congestion problem sorted.

Running the gauntlet on Malvern Road
SIR – On my way to post a letter i was confronted with the frequent problem of footpath obstruction on the wide part of Malvern Road which is like Santa Pod raceway on a Saturday night.
I had two choices, walk in the road and get hit by a car,or walk on the grass verge and get covered in dog mess!! I informed my local councillors who just passed the buck as they usually do and nothing has been done as usual.
I have photos of this problem if you would like to see them?

More motorway mayhem on the way
SIR – I think I’ve worked it out at last. There’s obviously a terrorist cell buried deep inside the Highways Department, hell bent on bringing economic chaos to Worcester by destroying the road network.
Its working too. Having trashed the Whittington and Ketch roundabouts, followed by a brief foray into Warndon, they’re now turning their attention to the M5 Junction 7 roundabout. For the next two months, more misery is about to be unleashed on the poor motorist, while “improvements” are made to the junction. It will be interesting to see what form these “improvements” take, since this roundabout is one of the few parts of the Southern Link system that actually works now. Its the Whittington nonsense that causes the problem!

Serve the people who elected you
SIR – Just to remind  the Green councillors  Julian Roskams and Niel Laurenson, you are elected to serve the people of Worcestershire. Why don’t the Syrian refugees go to a closer Muslim state like Saudia Arabia, Kuwait, Dubai?
Try helping Worcestershire’s homeless first. The taxpayers’ money you want to spend housing Syrian refugees would be better spent in a food bank for Worcestershire people.
If you want to house refugees try putting your hands in your own pockets . You can house them at your homes at your expense. Try serving the people who elected you.

Support your local arts   - even in the rain
SIR – It might have been drizzling but Shakespeare at The Commandery was no damp squib.
Ben Humphrey’s production of The Comedy of Errors was a very enjoyable way to spend an evening. While some of the audience donned waterproof coats against the fine rain, the actors brushed all aside to perform a very lively interpretation of one of Shakespeare’s earliest plays. Well done to all involved.
Be brave, ignore the grey skies and grab a ticket, you won’t be disappointed.

Council should take control of litter
SIR – I am pleased to see that mayor Cllr Roger Knight is concerned about the litter problems in our city.
It was also encouraging to learn that Cllr Simon Geraghty intends to manage the problem.
However, I have heard this sort of talk many times before with no or little action. Not just with regard to litter, but many topics that have been raised over the years.
The council’s answer to the problem in the places I notice is to tie an additional black bin bag on the lamp-post for when the litter bin is full, a potentially easy feast for gulls and other vermin.
We all know there is a litter problem, some of it self-inflicted by the inconsiderate. However the resources that need managing must be the responsibility of the council. That’s why you were elected.

Where has beautiful flower gone?
SIR, Has the beautiful Pheasant Eye Narcissus gone out of existence? It’s been years since I saw their delicate beauty anywhere in either a garden or a florist.
