SIR -I read Maxine Grant's letter, (Letters, August 28).

I do not think that she has much to complain about really. Surely there must be some attraction in the job she has or she would not have decided to work so far from home.

We are at war, but there is no direction of labour as there was in 1939/45.

She is free to work where she likes.

This person describes herself as a "low paid shift worker", but she can afford a car which is more than many of us can. As for being a "lone female walking to a far-away car park late at night" - she knows that we live in appalling times. She should have thought of that before taking the job.

If Maxine is unhappy, I suggest that she looks for a job nearer home. Then she could save herself parking charges by using public transport and, at the same time, she would be cutting down on CO2 emissions as well.
