SIR - John Shearon, (Letters, September 13), writes that railways should charge a fair price for journeys travelled.
From Worcester he can travel to Droitwich for £2.20, Birmingham for £5.70, or he can travel to Hereford and back for an evening out for only £3.50.
Comparing these with taxi fares for the equivalent rides, I wonder what he thinks is a fair price? As for the penalty fare of £20 and naming and shaming if he is caught attempting to use the train without paying, he should compare this to the penalty and publicity if he was caught attempting to leave his supermarket without paying for his shopping!
EDWARD SHIRLEY, Worcester.
