SIR - Whenever I read criticism of concessions to city council staff I am mindful that any such privilege, in my experience, was usually disproportionate to the benefit derived by the employer from the arrangement. It seems to me that any reasonable employer would welcome having employees who provide and maintain motor vehicles at their own expense and hold them available throughout working hours for little more than the cost of fuel.
It is entirely in the employer's interests to provide parking space close at hand without expecting them to pay for the privilege.
