SIR – I refer to Mr Calagari’s letter. Firstly, comparing controlling fox numbers to endangered species is really scraping the barrel.
Anti-hunt brigade, I am not a snob neither am I a politician, nor do I wish to become one.
However, using the Parliament Act to ban hunting was corrupt. This Act is supposed to be reserved for emergencies such as times of war. Speaking of which, the use of this Act to ban hunting was about as legal as going to war with Iraq.
Vixens have five cubs every year and they do not have a natural predator and their numbers do indeed need to be kept under control, and in a humane way. Driving healthy foxes away from hen houses and disposing of diseased ones is humane.
