SIR – Worcester Buses could reduce their carbon footprint by substantially curtailing services, such as the park and ride and 244 during non-peak times. Surely Country Buses only operate a staggered timetable! As a former transport employee in Wales, I remember that our rota system required working split shifts. These operated during the morning and evening rush hours. It was uneconomical to run services throughout the day. Some of our routes went from, for example, Worcester to Birmingham in the morning, followed by transport staff travelling back to Worcester. We then returned to Birmingham on the 144 to rejoin our passengers for the early evening peak hour return trip to Worcester. Buses don’t necessarily have to run empty or with just a few passengers throughout the day. A dreadful waste of dwindling energy resources and council tax.

Worcester.
