SIR – David Paine’s article on Worcestershire County Council contemplating spending £1.7 million on consultants to advise on how £45 million can be saved is preposterous.

Well paid employees are already in situ to deal with such matters.

They have dedicated staff who are quite capable to assist in any enquiry. If £1.7 million is wasted then the total needed would increase to £46.7 million.
