SIR - I do not understand how the suggestion that the existing nuclear powers such as the US, UK, Israel, France, India and Pakistan can be trusted only to use nuclear power for responsible industrial purposes any more or less than those interested in acquiring nuclear power such as Iran. If we are to be honest, the only genuinely safe option is for all countries to cease enriching uranium and to disarm. Honesty does not seem to come into the equation since the US and UK at least continue to research more efficient deadly weaponry, including nuclear.
