SIR - Your story headlined "Cabbies kidnap fare dodgers" describes how drivers have ended up in fights or locking the passengers in their cars until they pay.
Taxi drivers feel the police have shown little interest in their plight. And although it is not acceptable that people refuse to pay, what do the taxi drivers expect?
Do they think that several times on busy nights, the police should attend and possibly arrest the non-payers when there may be more pressing things to deal with, such as assaults and road accidents, domestic incidents and so on?
Should the custody suite at Worcester Police Station be filled with non-payers? What next? Should we make it legal for a few heavies to come around to one's home and `sort out' unpaid utility bills. No, of course not.
This is a civilised country, and perhaps the taxi drivers should be more discerning over who they allow into their cab.
