SIR -- If N Taylor would like to ring the members' room at County Hall I will be glad to provide him with a copy of our scrutiny report on public transport. He will see that the report goes into considerable depth to explore what will improve public satisfaction and make buses more convenient and more attractive.

Several of our recommendations are about improving public information and customer care. We also investigate how Worcestershire compares with other counties both in value for money and best practice. We learn how important it is for the council to work imaginatively with the bus companies to achieve improvements for the public within the demands of their businesses. We look at prospects for the future based on the successful pattern of Project Express.

The report is about improving the bus service for passengers and achieving best value for money. It is not about forcing people out of their cars as Mr Taylor seems to think.

LIZ TUCKER,

County councillor, Pershore
