N Taylor cannot get it into his head that private cars are ruining our atmosphere for our grandchildren, says George Cowley. You've been swallowing too much Labour Party codswallop, George!

Hydrogen fuel cell powered cars are scheduled for volume production between 2010 and 2015. With zero emissions, and hydrogen fuel consumption figures of around 2.9 litres of hydrogen per 100 kilometres, these new cars will eliminate all the CO2 emissions from private cars. If George had any idea of the concept of "pollution," he would realise it is development and growth that is ruining our atmosphere. Worcester's planned new 10,000 houses will add another 44,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions to our local atmosphere. That's the equivalent of 18,000 cars. Add the massive developments at Grove Farm and 15 office blocks on Newtown Road, and you can say that Worcester's planned housing and commercial developments are going to add 100,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions to our local atmosphere, which is approximately equivalent to another 40,000 cars on Worcester's roads.

Nationally, the planned five million new homes will add 28 million tonnes of CO2 to our emissions, and you can double that to 56 million tonnes (West Midlands average), to allow for commercial developments.

N TAYLOR,

Worcester.
