SIR – Here we are, with the national and local elections upon us.

This year has seen unrivalled coverage of the leaders of the three main parties, including four to five hours of head to head questions and discussion. All this to help the voter choose who will get their vote.

Now comes the time to vote. All who are entitled to vote should use their vote. Every vote is important, especially for the selection of the next national government.

To new voters, the act of voting is easy. The choice of candidate may be less so, but this is your opportunity. Don’t waste it – have a go and make a commitment. The habit will last you a lifetime!

Those who “can’t be bothered” to vote are demeaning their electoral priviledge and letting down their would-be candidate.

Apathy can lose elections – I know from past experiences.
