SIR – In your editorial on May 12 you stated your belief that Gordon Brown is “a decent man”.

It was Brown who offered Israel the cooperation of Royal Navy vessels to help enforce the criminal blockade of Gaza – a blockade which amounts to collective punishment under international law.

It was Brown who financed the illegal war in Iraq and who continued to send troops to die in Afghanistan.

In the same paper David Cameron was quoted as saying that New Labour has made Britain “more compassionate abroad”. This is a gross insult to everyone who has suffered from British foreign policy.
