SIR – Can anyone give me an official reason why the cost of fuel in our county is, on average, 4p per litre more expensive than in surrounding areas and the rest of the country.
Diesel is on average 119.9p per litre while down the road in Warwickshire it is 115.9p per litre. Is there a hidden tax on crossing the county line. A fuel tanker carries a minimum of 20,000 litres. At 4p per litre that’s another £800 for the fuel companies. You can’t explain that amount away in extra haulage charges.
Can anyone come up with a realistic official answer.
