SIR – During my occasional disputes with other readers I am regularly told that Britain is now a tolerant multicultural/multifaith/multiracial society with a proud history of taking all-comers from abroad without distinction on the grounds of race, creed and colour.

As a Celtic person with a grasp of British history I wonder where I fit into this modern Britain? Many of my race were not tolerated but starved and thrown out of the British Isles to face an uncertain fate in remote lands, but we seem to have been overlooked when it came to planning this new multicultural paradise.

Can anyone point me to an example of this sort of enforced mix of peoples and cultures actually working successfully elsewhere in the world?

And can anyone refresh my memory about when we debated and voted for all these radical changes to the country of my birth?
