SIR – Your correspondent, Richard Boorn writes of the “outdated politics” of the Conservative party and extols the virtues of the Labour party in combining their “traditional values with policies that are relevant in the 21st century”.

This makes interesting reading, but they are misguided concepts.

Mr Boorn also describes trade unions as one of Labour’s roots, but chooses to ignore the fact that they are steeped in “old, outdated politics”.

From my viewpoint trade unions are still preaching the same message that they always have. That message says “grab as much as you can and give as little as you can get away with, and don’t be concerned about the company going bust – that’s someone else’s worry”.

Such attitudes have contributed to the downfall of much of Britain’s once great industrial strengths and have no place in present times.
