SIR – I have the great honour to be chairman of the Pershore Plum Festival committee – a relatively small group of dedicated hard working volunteers, who have just made August Bank Holiday in Pershore the success that it was.
About 17,000 people from all over the country attended the towns’ Plum Fayre Day – the culmination of the month-long festival – and it was without doubt one of the towns’ biggest successes in recent years for everyone involved.
A poster for the Pershore Flower Show in 1920 described the event as ‘the largest plum show on Earth’ and the Plum Festival has been striving to recreate this spectacle. How wonderful it is to think that 90 years later, I really think we are well on the way to reclaiming that title.
May I thank the record number of Pershore businesses and retailers who supported the many and varied events, menus and plum-themed activities.
Angela Tidmarsh, Pershore
