SIR – I, together with many other people, attended the opening ceremony of the Gheluvelt memorial in Gheluvelt Park, Barbourne, last year.
There were comments about the type of memorial but it was claimed that the style was intended to represent the scene. The rusty metalwork has since rusted even more.
I recently went to the memorial and was saddened to see that the names of those who were killed at the Battle of Gheluvelt were now indecipherable.
I looked round for something to show the names in full but there appears to be nothing.
Is it not time that the designers of this memorial place a suitable plaque which will stand the test of time?
Their names should be there for all to see and not all but disappear after only a few months.
