SIR - It is with deep regret that I am writing this letter. On Friday, July 7, my wife and - I as is our custom - went down to the River Severn to feed the swans. To our dismay my wife and I witnessed a blonde-haired youth urinating in the bushes next to the nearby rowing club building.

When I pointed out his blatant disregard for common decency I was told sworn at.

As my wife fed the swans on the steps opposite Worcester Technical College, we were met with a torrent of disgusting language concerning the mess the swans made on the steps.

When I remonstrated with the youth, who I believe was from Birmingham, he picked up a rowing paddle and wielded it in a menacing manner, continuing his aggressive behaviour.

I pointed out to him that I was a council taxpayer and that he was a fine one to talk after he was disposing of his own bodily waste on the riverbank.

He told me that the rowing clubhouse was contaminated with asbestos, and therefore unavailable, and he could do whatever he liked.

He also informed me in a threatening manner that if I made any complaint there would be retribution, and although I do not like giving into bullies, I have decided to request that my name and address be withheld.

I feel I could not let this incident pass without reporting it to Worcester City Council who I hope will stand up to these intimidating youths for the good of the community.

On this occasion, the Worcester News has agreed to preserve the writer's anonymity. Have you suffered because of yobbish behaviour on the riverbank? If so, we'd like to know. Please contact our newsdesk on 01905 742244. Letters Editor.
