SIR – What do Upton-upon- Severn, Malvern Link, Barnards Green, Bromyard and St John’s in Worcester have in common?

Well, the answer is they are all losing their high street banks. A fact that places even greater pressure on sustaining our local communities.

With this fact in mind could someone tell me why it would not be feasible for, say, two or three different banks to operate from the same building?

Just imagine the savings that would be on offer to the banks.

Most of today’s banking is done electronically so there could be branded paying in and cash point machines, a single cash desk, private areas for the different banks to discuss loans and other business with their own clientele, and so on.

Is it just too simple?

Many of our high street department stores do it, by letting out floor space, so why not banks?

Just imagine the banks actually doing something to help and support our local communities, instead of just pulling the plug.
