SIR – Take a walk around Worcester and except for a few banners in College Street you would not have known that from August 6 it was our turn to host the Three Choirs Festival.
This prestigious festival is the oldest of its type in the world and except for the aforementioned banners there is nothing festive about the city – no bunting, no hanging baskets of flowers.
Has some ‘health and safety jobsworth’ deemed them unsafe.
The Worcester Festival also started on Saturday and runs until August 29.
These festivals will bring many visitors here, some for the first time, and businesses in the city will benefit.
The question is whether their visit will inspire them to make a return visit; the answer is probably not.
It is possible that Three Choirs visitors will in the future give Worcester a miss and just support the Hereford and Gloucester festivals where there is more of a festival feel.
It’s time to wake up Worcester.
