SIR – Early on the morning of Tuesday, July 26, before a lot of people were up, contractors with several vehicles started on the long awaited resurfacing of St George’s Square, Barbourne – about some 25 years since the last one. By 10am the old base – apart from an abandoned car (removed later) – had been completely removed, and before lunch the first under-surface was in place for about half the street.

The following day at 3pm the work, apart from 50 yards of top coat, was complete.

The county council did well to engage the private contractors concerned who have done a remarkable job in such a short time.

Thanks are due to them.

What a difference to some jobs where the roads seem to be closed indefinitely.

All that needs doing now is the street to be paved in gold (not double yellow).
