SIR – I’m afraid Phil Pegler is way too late with ‘complain now when it’s too late’ (Letters, November 28).

The 23,000 homes planned for South Worcestershire will be built.

The Chancellor has said house building is the great engine of our economy. The so-called public consultation is therefore the usual load of worthless piffle. Especially with the three councils involved standing to collect £35 million of our money because the Government is offering ‘bonuses’ of £1,500 for each new home built.

Worcestershire is going to be concreted over by those I call the South Worcestershire Destruction Squad. We already have twice the people we can feed.

The Office for National Statistics now projects our population to rise to 77 million by 2035, 95 million by 2060 and 137 million by 2100; mainly through immigration. If we stopped all immigration right now these houses wouldn’t be needed.

Our population wouldn’t exceed 70 million, and would actually fall to below 58 million by 2110.

Our MPs have so far successfully distanced themselves from this lunacy, yet they are the ones responsible for all these new housing developments, which mass immigration is driving. They have chosen growth, in preference to our quality of life, and our (local) environment. South Worcestershire cannot cope with another 80,000 people, with hundreds of thousands to follow in the course of the next century.

Worse still our global biosphere cannot cope with billions more people. Sooner or later it is going to self destruct. I’m just glad my generation won’t be around when that happens!
