SIR – I agree with Jean Wilson ‘Once again it is the vulnerable who suffer’ (Worcester News, January 4) about the abuse of the blue badge system and the cost of the new badges.
But what really needs doing is an effort to catch offenders using the badges unlawfully.
I see traffic wardens checking on badges being displayed correctly, but is there ever a check on whether or not the badge holder is involved with the journey?
If the person concerned enters or alights from the vehicle and the badge photo fits the face, all well and good.
However, should a driver be in charge of a vehicle without proof that the badge holder is the reason for the journey then that person should be subject to investigation.
It may be difficult, but unless more spot-checks are made, how are culprits going to be caught?
