Sir – The report on the Hive (Worcester News, February 1) makes me look forward to visiting the new library when it opens later this year.
Whatever people think of the outside, as I’ve said before, it is what the inside contains that really matters.
With 275,000 books, including new tomes bought with taxpayers’ cash by Worcestershire County Council, and the archives of the University of Worcester, it can’t be bad.
A study room on the fourth floor with rooftop view will probably compete with and even surpass that from House of Fraser in the city centre.
The main library promises to equal any in Europe and the history and records section along with a separate children’s library and an open-plan study area below will be excellent.
The 250 computers with free access are a sign of the times but from my own experience of using them, if only late in life, I have come to realise their importance in education.
With the whole complex being open to the public from 8.30am to 10pm (95 hours a week) Worcestershire will be put even more on the map.
