SIR – I am writing to express the profound disappointment of Worcester Trades Union Council following the decision by QinetiQ as an employer to derecognise the trade unions (Worcester News, February 25).
This is almost invariably a decision made by employers who are planning to cut jobs or launch an attack on pay, terms and conditions, or both.
QinetiQ needs to recognise that its staff are its greatest asset and they deserve to continue receiving competitive pay, terms and conditions.
The most effective way to ensure this is to continue with union recognition and for management to consult with the unions so that solutions that work both for the business and for staff can be found.
STEVE MARTIN
Chairman, Worcester Trades Union Council
