SIR – Re ‘Nasty tone to letters on migrant workers’ (Worcester News, March 6) and other letters in the Worcester News regarding immigration.

I cannot recall people using nasty words regarding immigration until a few years ago. Why?

The answer is very simple: poverty and debts.

This country cannot cope any more with the huge number of immigrants who want to take lots and give little.

I am an immigrant myself, came here nearly 20 years ago and met my husband in business.

In those days immigrants were not allowed to work for the first year of their stay, had to pay overseas fees for their courses and weren’t given a national insurance number.

To me it was the right thing to do to help you make the right decision: Did you want to stay or not and what was the reason for your stay.

Who says English people are lazy? They are hardworking people, they work outside and on the top of that they do all their housework, gardening, DIY. You should praise them, Mr Palmer, and not use nasty words regarding your own people.

The majority of these immigrants bring nothing to the country, they just take.
