SIR – Re George Cowley’s letter ‘At the end of the day, horses are horses’ (Worcester News, March 22). He wrote: It is very sad that five horses died in the first two days at the racing at Cheltenham last week – but horses are only horses.
George, you are totally wrong. Horses are very intelligent animals. They have been used in many wars and saved lives.
You say it only matters about the jockeys.
Of course it matters about jockeys not getting hurt. But they have a choice not to ride, the horses do not have. They do not ask to run these races so people and their owners can get rich. It’s all about money.
It’s so sad to think they are born to race.
If they don’t make it they are sent to slaughter, how sad is that?
