SIR – Yet again we read about a motorist pleading with a court because they have got to 12 points on their driving licence and are facing a ban.
They cry that they will be caused excessive hardship because they need to drive to get to work or are employed as a driver, they won’t be able to visit a sick relative or ferry children about.
Well, they should have thought of that before.
It’s not as if they have been caught once breaking the law and so lost their right to drive, they have been caught maybe three times before and yet have still chosen to ignore the law.
It is about time the courts got tough with these people.
They have already been given up to three chances to change their behaviour, but they haven’t bothered to.
There should be no further chances, they should be banned. People need to learn that if they need their car, they should take responsibility for themselves and pay more attention to protecting their own licence by driving within the law.
