SIR – Worcester City Council has been employing a consultant at £600 a day to manage the waste and recycling and open spaces departments (Worcester News, April 24).
One would have thought that there would have been someone already employed by the council who could do the job given the chance and time, but apparentlly not.
In the meantime the bill has been £39,566.40 (in three months) for a post that was advertised as a permanent position paying between £40,000 and £43,000.
I agree with your comment column (Worcester News, April 24) that the job could have waited until the vacancy was filled.
We local taxpayers deserve an answer to the reason for such a waste of money when the council is making cuts in other directions.
