SIR – As Worcester City Council’s cabinet member for value for money, I wrote about the last Labour controlled city council’s legacy of uncontrolled spending (Worcester News, April 24) – which so closely mirrored what happened later at a national level.
In fairness, even the Labour councillors who responded to the Worcester News letters page did not deny the facts.
However, there is a need to correct one writer’s mistake.
It was suggested that I claimed the credit for turning the city council’s finances around.
Actually the work was started well before I came into my post.
More importantly, without raising council tax we Conservatives could never have maintained services and built up financial reserves had it not been for the hard work and effectiveness of city council employees at all levels of the organisation.
