SIR – What a splendid photograph of Daryl Mitchell (Worcester News, May 9), alongside Tom Guest’s column.
Daryl is a shining example of a local young man who has worked his way through the cricket ranks to become the ultimate – captain of his county.
County members and supporters can be grateful that our club is in such good hands.
I have known Daryl and his family a long time.
His father Keith was an outstanding club cricketer, now turned coach/umpire, who has no doubt had some influence on the way Daryl has turned out. Keep up the good work, Daryl. It’s going to be hard this season.
I may not have shared director of cricket Steve Rhodes’s confidence in scoring 280 to beat Middlesex at Lord’s last week, but I admire his confidence.
Let’s hope that when the rain stops we can enjoy a successful season.
BILL TANSELL
