SIR – Re your short article ‘University table’ (Worcester News, April 28).

I would be interested to know what criteria is taken into account by the Complete University Guide (who are they?) when compiling their league table.

According to the article, the University of Worcester is 107th of the 116 universities.

It makes me wonder how, despite being – presumably – one of the worst universities in the country, they are still gradually taking over the whole of Worcester and St John’s in particular.

I shudder to think what power the University of Worcester would have should it ever rise from the equivalent of the basement of the Blue Square Bet Premier League to the heady heights of the Premiership (football parlance for the uninitiated).

With Worcester College of Technology getting in on the act now – recently acquiring another square oblong monstrosity (the Russell and Dorrell building) – perhaps the council should consider building a new village/town to the west of Dines Green/Rushwick so that the current genuine residents of St John’s can all move there.

It would leave the colleges to continue their takeover unabated and unhindered.
