SIR – It just gets worse and worse. The barmy EU leaders in Brussels are plotting to sign a pact with its non-EU neighbour Turkey to open up Britain’s benefits system.

Not only is our welfare state open to all those in the EU, it could now be open to those not in the EU. Where will it end?

There should simply be no opening up of the welfare system to any person who has no intention to work and contribute to British society.

The present system which is open to EU citizens needs to be looked at and reformed.

People coming to work here should have to have the funds to look after themselves for the first six months.

That means funds to pay for housing, food, and NHS services.

After the initial six months, and having paid into the system, they should receive 50 per cent towards NHS and medical services.

They should be allowed to claim the full amount after they have worked here full time for three years then.
