SIR – It is heartbreaking to see so many shops empty in Worcester and so many businesses closed – it must be even more heartbreaking for the owners and employees.
It is obvious that in most cases the rates are too high.
Would it not be more prudent if the rateable values were reduced in order that more places could stay solvent.
The council would then receive a greater rateable income than hitherto?
